San Diego International Airport

Opened on August 16, 1928, the San Diego International Airport was initially called the San Diego Municipal Airport- Lindbergh Field, to honor the memory of Charles Lindbergh, the only man who flew over the Atlantic by himself. Ever since its creation, the San Diego International Airport has served all types of aircrafts.

To celebrate the airport’s 75th anniversary, the people of San Diego created in 2003 an interesting documentary we invite you to watch, The Future Takes Wing: San Diego International Airport, 75 Years of Flight. The airport’s first terminal was located along the Pacific Coast Highway. The first airmail route was created in 1930 and 4 years later the airport became international. The surface of the airport is quite limited though, only 661 acres of land. The San Diego International Airport has now 3 terminals. Terminal 1 has 19 gates, Terminal 2 has 22 gates and handles all international arrivals, while the Commuter Terminal has 4 gates.

The second busiest commercial airport with a single runway in the world, the San Diego International Airport carries more than 17 million passengers every year. Daily, 40,000 people use the services of the airport. So if you wish to have a pleasant, safe and comfortable flight, the San Diego International Airport will take you to your destination.
