Qualcomm Stadium

Built in 1967, the Qualcomm Stadium was originally named the San Diego Stadium. It changed its name to San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium in 1980 and to Qualcomm Stadium in 1997. Qualcomm is a telecommunication company from San Diego which paid 18 million dollars for the expansion of the stadium. In exchange Qualcomm obtained the naming rights of the stadium from 1997 to 2017.

The stadium’s capacity was expanded to almost 61,000 seats in 1984 and 13 years later another 10,500 seats were added. Nowadays, the Qualcomm Stadium covers 166 acres and offers 70,561 seats to all sport lovers, over 19,000 parking spaces, 52 concession stands, 16 entrance gates, 53 ticket windows, 51 drinking fountains, 3 restaurants, 4 lounges, 2 gift shops, 9 novelty stands, 113 executive suites, 8 ramps, 2 video boards, 5 wheelchair lifts, 11 elevators, 12 escalators, 44 men’s restrooms, 50 women’s restrooms and 2 unisex restrooms.

The Qualcomm Stadium hosts important football events featuring the San Diego Chargers and SDSU Aztec, as well as the Street Scene, the Holiday Bowl, the Poinsettia Bowl and many others. The San Diego Chargers played on the Qualcomm Stadium for the first time on August 20, 1967. Come and see them play on this vacation!
