Japanese Friendship Garden

Did you ever wish to know more about the Japanese culture? By creating a splendid Japanese garden together with several educational programs, the non-profit organization called the Japanese Friendship Garden introduces visitors to the secrets of the Japanese lifestyle and culture.

The idea of a Japanese Friendship Garden first appeared in 1915. A symbol of the strong ties that link the Americans to the Japanese people, the Japanese Teahouse was built in that same year for the Panama California Exposition. Appreciated by both San Diego residents and visitors for over 30 years, the Japanese Tea Pavilion led to the creation of today’s Japanese Friendship Garden. We now invite you to visit special exhibits such as Oriental Zodiac Signs, Kimekomi Dolls or Calligraphy, Paper and Mizuhiki. You may even organize a special garden celebration at the Koi Pond and Moon Viewing Deck, the Courtyard, the Exhibit House or the Ceremonial Plaza.

You may visit the Japanese Friendship Garden Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm in winter, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 5 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm in summer. Admission is free for children under 6 years old.
