Brown Field Municipal Airport
If you wish to enjoy a safe and comfortable flight from California to Mexico, we invite you to try the services of the Brown Field Municipal Airport. You won’t be disappointed.
Located at 1424 Continental Street, 13 miles South East of San Diego, the Brown Field Municipal Airport was opened in 1918 as an aerobatics school. At that time it was called the East Field. In time, it changed its name to NAAS Otay Mesa and to NAAS Brown Field in 1943. Until 1962, the airport was used for military purposes, as a Naval Auxiliary Air Station. Its runway station is 8000 foot long and 150 foot wide and its control tower operates 12 hours a day, from 8 am to 8 pm.
In 1936, Melville S. Brown, a brave United States Navy Commander, died in an airplane crash. The airport was named Brown Field Municipal to honor his memory.
The Brown Field Municipal Airport is now a general aviation airport, mainly used for private aircrafts, as well as for military and law enforcement agencies. Visit the airport and see the professionals at work.
